Calibration Laboratories

Calibration Laboratories

Electrical Measurements Laboratory

The calibrations cover the calibration range of the electrical measurements (DC/Low Frequency) and concern the following parameters: Voltage, Current, Resistance, Frequency and Time.

Each calibration of the laboratory is based on the use of standard devices (primary standards), such as a rubidium frequency source device, an AC/DC Multifunction Transfer Standard and multi-resistor device, that ensure a precision correlation at the EIM.

Dimensional Measurements Laboratory

Calibrations relate to the parameters: Length, Flatness, Parallelism, Straightness, Surface Roughness, Surface Curvature, Surface Convexity, Cylindricity, Concentricity, Eccentricity and Angle.

Calibrations are based on a set of reference gauge blocks (Grade 00), optical flats, monochromatic light source, Grade 1 bars, angles, rings and roughness tiles to ensure traceability to NPL, EIM, etc.

Laboratory of Temperature-Relative Humidity Measurements

Laboratory calibrations are based on the ITS-90 standard international temperature scale and the use of standard baths and dry ovens, environmental chamber, black body device, and water bath of the water triple point (0.4 mK uncertainty), that ensure correlation of measurement accuracy in NPL, EIM, etc.

Pressure Measurement Laboratory

The calibrations of the laboratory concern the following parameters: Atmospheric Pressure, Absolute and Differential Pressure. For calibration, "Deadweight Testers" special reference standard devices with pneumatic and hydraulic functions are used, with capacities up to 550bar, and there are work standards of 1000bar capacity to ensure accuracy correlation in NPL, EIM, etc.

Power and Torque Measurement Laboratory

The calibrations mainly concern the following metrological equipment: Compression and Tension Devices, Dynamometers, Torque wrenches and Torque meters. Calibration is carried out using standard load cells and standard torque metering devices, which ensure precision correlation in EIM.

Mass, Volume and Density Measurements Laboratory

Calibrations are based on a series of analytical balances (5th decimal) and OIML-E2 class standard weights, which ensure a precision correlation to the International Standard Kilogram stored at the BIPM (International Bureau of Measures and Weights).

Physical Measurement Laboratory.

This laboratory was created in 2007 and concerns the calibration of Fixed Speed Control Systems on the roads. To date, more than 250 systems have been calibrated in Greece.

The systems that have been calibrated are of various manufacturers such as: Siemens, Sensys, Redflex etc.

The training of the Department's technicians was carried out by specialized personnel of the Institute of Metrology. The standard equipment consists of Lidar systems, which ensure traceability at the Hellenic Institute of Metrology (EIM).
